Ian Khama's homosexual politricks.

By Caesar Zvayi

BOTSWANA’S unelected president, Seretse Khama Ian Khama, caught those who know him by surprise at the burial of the late Zambian leader, Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, on Wednesday.

Not only did he leave his cocoon in Gaborone to finally join other African leaders at an African gathering, but he also came sporting a ring on the third finger of his left hand.

Yes, a ring.

We all know the third finger is reserved for the nuptial manacle — the wedding band and when one puts a ring on it, particularly a wedding band, the logical conclusion is that there is a maiden revelling in wedded bliss somewhere in the background.

To the best of my knowledge, and this has since been confirmed by sources in Gaborone, Ian Khama is not married, has never been married, does not have a girlfriend, has not been romantically linked to one in his 57 years of bachelorhood, does not have a kid.

In fact, haana kana kumbonenerwawo zvake (no maiden ever tried to elope to him).

This is the same way he pretends to be a president, exercising full executive power, yet he never went for an election.

It wouldn’t be our business if the Botswana law allows one to be president without an election, that is their system. It becomes our business when the same man shoots his mouth over our own presidency here.

Badmouthing President Mugabe, who has always submitted himself to election every five years since 1980, accusing him of ‘‘pretending to be president’’.

But then this is Africa, the land of contradictions, where hypocrites can masquerade without a sense of irony.

Be that as it may, Khama is free to wear a ring on whichever part of his body he likes, the same way he is free to act on EU sanctions in independent Africa, and to discuss hosting the US military force, Africom, against not only Sadc but Africa’s collective opposition.

The point is, in Botswana one can be a president without going for an election as Khama and his predecessors have done, that is their system. Here in Zimbabwe, the presidency is secured by election, not elevation. Our law says where there are more than two candidates; the winner should score at least 50 percent plus 1 to prevail. That did not happen on March 29, necessitating June 27 where President Mugabe trounced Tsvangirai by a wide margin.

As such, Khama can call himself president in Botswana but the Botswana system does not apply in Zimbabwe, which is why Tsvangirai is not a president.

That fact is why Tsvangirai’s name was not on the list of heads of state and government at Mwanawasa’s funeral, but on the list of other invited dignitaries among them opposition leaders in Zambia.

So on what grounds does Khama stand to point a finger at Zimbabwe?

The clue lies in his willingness to enforce EU sanctions in an African country, itself a consequence of Botswana’s history as a British protectorate. As Tsholotsho MP Jonathan Moyo put it, ‘‘what Uncle Sam does, Uncle Tom follows’’. Here are a few examples:

l The EU says it does not recognise President Mugabe and would rather have Tsvangirai. Ian Khama follows suit and mulls not only giving Tsvangirai a diplomatic passport but an armoured car as well.

l The EU imposes sanctions on Zimbabwe; Khama implements them.

l Gordon Brown boycotts the EU-Africa Summit on account of President Mugabe’s attendance; Ian Khama follows suit over the Sadc summit.

l The Western media badmouths Zimbabwe, Ian Khama instructs the Botswana media to follow suit. Works in cahoots with Usaid to launch an anti-Zimbabwe programme, "Voice from Within", that airs every Wednesday, prime time on Btv.

l The Dutch embassy gives Tsvangirai ‘‘asylum’’ during the run-off, Khama follows suit.

The list is long, but the point is Ian Khama and his politics of Western appeasement are the biggest crises confronting Sadc at a time the region is supposed to be gearing for the African renaissance.

How can the renaissance be achieved when the likes of Ian Khama go against the basic tenets? That Africa can engage the West as an equal partner not a basket of client states?

It is no secret why the US is keen to get a foothold in Sadc, a region that has been termed the Persian Gulf of Minerals?

A report released by the US think-tank, Council on Foreign Relations, titled ‘‘More than Humanitarianism: A Strategic US Approach Toward Africa’’, acknowledges the centrality of Southern Africa to US interests.

The CFR report says in part, ‘‘Africa is of growing international importance. By the end of the decade, for example, sub-Saharan Africa is likely to become as important a source of US energy imports as the Middle East.

‘‘China, India, Europe, and others are competing with each other and with the United States for access to oil, natural gas and other natural resources. The world’s major powers are also becoming more active in seeking out investments, winning contracts and building political support on the continent.’’

There you have it. The US is keen to militarise Southern Africa through Africom as a prelude to plundering its resources. Africa need only look at what US military presence has done to the Middle East to see why Ian Khama’s poodle politics is the biggest crisis confronting the region.

Zimbabwe is not the crisis as the likes of Khama and their media embeds would have us believe, simply because Zimbabwe is actually advancing the objectives of the Frontline States, its successor the SADCC and Sadc combined, that is the total decolonisation of African space.

Back to Khama. Mwanawasa’s burial was full of valuable lessons that Ian Khama would do well to imbibe if he is to shake off the tag of ‘‘Sadc’s slouching novice’’.

For starters, it was clear in Lusaka that Botswana is alone in its stance on President Mugabe and Zimbabwe. Africa respects its heroes and elder statesmen.

For instance, it was announced for all to hear, him included, that ‘‘arriving now is President Robert Gabriel Mugabe, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe’’. Tsvangirai’s arrival, if ever it was noticed, was not similarly announced.

Not only that, Ian Khama probably saw and heard for himself the crowd’s reaction, and the stampede from the media, when President Mugabe arrived, the same media that hardly gave him (Khama) a glance when he slouched to his seat among other heads of state and government.

If that did not strike him, then he would have to be as a blind as a bat, if he did not read the significance of the order in which heads of state and government were seated. President Mugabe was given a prominent central position in the front row, just in front of the lectern, both at Parliament Building and at Embassy Grounds — Mwanawasa’s final resting place.

Not only that, when the laying of wreaths began President Mugabe was the fifth to do so after Mwanawasa’s family, Zambia’s acting President Rupiah Banda, AU chairman Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania and Sadc chairman, President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa.

That arrangement by Zambia’s protocol office was in recognition of President Mugabe’s stature as the elder African statesmen, which is why many leaders conferred with him.

Khama would also be interested to know that President Mugabe, apart from winning numerous accolades all over the world, was also knighted by the Queen of England as Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 1994 just like his (Khama’s) father, Seretse Khama, but because of his pan-African grounding, President Mugabe never used the title ‘‘Sir’’ preferring the revolutionary Comrade (whose Chimurenga meaning is blood brother) that he carries to this day.

A title won, not by serving the Empire but from fighting the depredations of the Empire, which is why the Empire tried to strike back by revoking the meaningless title in June this year.

This was testimony to the fact that Westerners have no permanent friends, only permanent interests. By choosing to put the interests of Zimbabwe before those of the Empire President Mugabe became the West’s enemy.

Ian Khama would do well to learn from how the Western leaders, who were lauding Mwanawasa whenever he launched tirades against Zimbabwe, were conspicuous by their absence at his burial, sending a few of their lowly envoys resident in Lusaka.

In contrast African leaders came from as far afield as Ghana and Madagascar to pay their last respects to their African brother.

Blood, not skin, is what unites u

Well done on telling the truth about the British and the white farmers(veldskoen wearing brigade)

Instead of embracing the africans they treated them like dirt. So hence now the backlash.

its difficult to see the truth with the propaganda media in the world.

I am a coloured and I salute you for you truth

i'am also a motswana also grounded in pan-african interests and proud of how botswana has come to help other african states in the past. ian khama is an individual and exactly that, a person who thinks of himself and his eternal image to the world, who does not care about the concerns of the average man in botswana but what that average man thinks of him. comments made by him of african leaders are a call for attention to show how brave this supposed supreme leader is.

i am a Motswana by birth and every bit of my being. i love my country but i do not in any way celebrate this man Ian Khama. I am an ardent supporter of President Robert Mugabe. he is a true African hero and the Brits should realize that by revoking their meaningless titles and the many honorary degrees they once conferred upon Mugabe they are fooling no one; maybe their citizenry but not us.
we love what Mugabe stands for because in spite of its costs (including human life just as much as it had been with every major revolution), the chief end goal is much grander than what a pacifist ass-kissing stance would have yielded. Khama knows nothing about where Africa is coming from and where it is going. He is just somebody who spent a better part of his life trying to live white. Did you ever hear how much his Setswana sucks?! He is uneducated and knows nothing about Africa. Mugabe is very educated and comprehends what is at stake. Khama should be the least of your concerns. Whenever he speaks he should be ignored and yawned away because he is just trying to cover his evil deeds in his country.

i too am a motswana, although i do not agree wth the way president mugabe handled things concernin the whites i am however in agreement with his thinking, he had a great idea which makes him more of a president rather than our so called" tautona ian khama". our country is no longer a democratic(free speech, thinking) region tht once made all of us proud, it is now bein run by a dictator. what has he done that we should call him president...nothing, absolutely nothing.what you wrote here was the truth n it will benefit rre ian wel to read this take note and try to learn from african heroes.

i start to question the thinking of the body or soul behind the abovementioned sayings. i like mugabe very much too but i also support the reasons of why ian oppossed the former. your must not criticice the way elections are done in bots because it is what we wanted same applies to you (zim). the questioning will only surfaced when what you submitted as you law is not respected by you. in bots we do what is in our law and every state do the same. what is done in zim is unpalatable, our zim couzins beaten and killed prior to elections...free and fair...no, you can see that you are altra vires your laws and dont think that we are so stupid not to see that....next time write a good view shamwari because you run short of discussions resulting on questioning the marital status of our president and forgeting that such kind of a ring can be used for different meanings either religious or any other. lastly i commend you of liking pres r g mugabe as he is a good fella easp against greedy whites BUT dont forget that what you like cannot be liked by everybody....

the truth really hurts, mugabe messed up zimbabwe not ian,iam proud of ian.if i remember well zim economy was the best during the 80s,next there was mugabe every thing went upside down.ian has the right to critize zimbabwe, zimbabweans are all over botswana some are doing commendable jobs others majority are causing havoc with crime.do you think ian has to be quite just to impress mugabe, mugabe must do things right, currently he is living in luxury and his people are all over the world without their choice.zimbos are abused in south africa, others dying of cholera in zim just because of one man mugabe.africa is full of cowards, they are scared to tell mugabe the truth to put his house in order.ian does not want this thing they call silent diplomacy,it is not taking africa anywhere,i want next time mugabe or any african leader to tell ian the truth when he messes up botswana.mugabe must put zimbabwe to order, when he took over as a president zim was number one in africa.africans lets not be brain washed by mugabe and his sycophats, the west did not destroy zim thats mugabes silly excuse, hail ian khama you are the man, africa needs great leaders like you.

i wish all the generation of war veterans dies and zim start from a new page,i am really fed up with this thing of liberation war all the time,we fought for zimbabwe...mugabe and his people are distroying zim on the excuse of that they fought for the country.iam young and a refugee in sa,my crime was that i suport MDC,PLIZ people zim needs a new leader mugabe has played his part, there is no need for pointing fingers to ian khama, ian is doing his job he cannot just keep quite when the zim problem is encroaching in his country, you can talk all the rubbish you may think of about the election system of botswana but at least the leaders respect their system, botswana from the time mugabe became the president had 3 presidents including the current.masire, mogae vacated their posts without being pushed.mugabe destroyed zim not the west.south africa got its independence in 1994 they had mandela, mbeki, mothlante and now zuma and sa is still going strong, they did not waste their time by pre occopying themselves harrasing the whites, they had to accept the mistakes made by the whites but for a fact if you chase whites sa economy will collapse within a month,sa is using a better system of putting the economy to s/africans hands not by bulldozing like mugabe, thats what we call intelligent leadership,s/africans suffered for a long time but iam suprised the way they do their things, mandela, mbeki and the others fought for south africa but they vacated their posts they did not kill anyone for supporting a party of his/her choice, these are really true leaders,if mugabe had a vision for zim he should have left longtime ago.zim economy could be still at the top.lets not try to be ignorant ian did nothing wrong by telling mugabe to sought out zim problem, mugabe is a failure believe me,let mugabe go and a new leader takes over whether from MDC or Zanu you will see that mugabe was just giving excuses with the west.ian khama is a true leader he did not waste time the first day he stepped to the presidency he fired to mugabe thats what we want from african leaders, lets not wait for the obamas, browns to tell our leaders if they are messing up our countries.hail khama the great!

I am a proud motswana and love my country very much also my president because I know he wants what is best for our country, instead of critisicing him you should be saying that about your president yo o maswe. How can someone lose an election and pretend like he never lost all because you are saying he is a hero, how long is he going to be a hero also being a president for this long. Wake up or else he is going to rule you forever, atleast our president loves us and doesnt take everything all for the name of being our hero. your president o tlhokana le go tsoga mo borokong jwa gagwe........

first of all,i do not support Botswana current president (our) nor Dr Mugabe for reasons, i won't call chasing, kill and confiscating white citizens properties heroism. tribal wars, bleaching democratic policy. 'they is a reason why Zimbabweans seek refuge from Botswana and South Africa (100% sure), they is a reason why GDP of Zimbabwe is $200 (source CIA factbook) TO APPLAUD HIM IS LIKE TIPPING A RAPIST' he is ruling a country like running a tuckshop, with just common sense.

about morwa seretse, shame, but automatically vice-president succeed to be is a policy yes, but he has never been, Officer Cadet, nor Brigadier, but commander and possess 'sir' tittle (jus lyk that) then 'fly' to vice (what a luck) lot 2 say let me create space, he is leading Botswana into poverty 2008-2009 GDP -12%, le fa o kabo o utlwa go tweng. last words BOTSWANA STAY AWAY FROM BRITAIN...akalo

Shame on you Batswana who made such comments.I am a Proud Motswana as well. How dare you dont learn? How stupid of you to support the heartless Mugabe over your own president? If you feel my President is not doing someting right do you think publishing him and turnishing his image online with your stupid comments will be of any help to you? wise people dont do that.you are like heartless muslims who go about killing without mercy. You go around writing and supporting wrong information that Ian Khama put himself into power, thats a lie, majority of Batswana supports him, will support him through thick and thin.Ian is human, just like any other person he is also prone to errors.Like him or hate him,the fact is he is the President of the Republic of Botswana.Who is Mugabe to start with? You can not even give a detail story of his positive life except the only ruthless life he has had together with his so called wife.I personnaly have no problem with the president who has no wife. We have had many presidents across the world who had wives and those wives have never been of any benefit to their Nations.Talk about something else not his wife or relationship status.Any person that marry or fall in love choose to do that, therefore it is not in the interest of my President to do that.He is doing it by choice.By the way what do you people work as if one may ask?

Africa as a continent is riddled with wars & diseases, the future looks bleek for Africa & still we are not leaning from our dark history what went on 30 odd years ago is going on today maybe not exactly same but similar in one country or another for example " president Amin expell indians from Uganda, international sanctions follows & many ugandian lives were destroyed years later R Mugabe repeat same only this time the whites but repacusions are the same & allways none of the African leaders gave a constructive critisisim" but one I Khama hopefully he is one of many to come
but history in Africa has a tendancy to repeat it's self as we have seen in the past dictatorships & civil wars none of our selfserving leaders & the AU ever do or say anything agaist their peers
Africa is a landfill of dead bodies & sturving children the legacy of all past & present gutless African leaders
Never has so few be responsible for the plight of so many in the history of mankind.
Now what Africa needs is to break away from our dark past
we have to start voting on all things affecting Africans in general, we need AU to legitimise our say as Africans about things affecting our fellow Africans
we need referundums, especially with problamatic leaders of member states where regime change might need implementing
we need to publicly quash any unjust deeds by our leaders

what I want to say is that we all need to be human rights activists for the sake of the future of the world.

On the Zim/Bots, Khama/Mugabe issue, it pains me a lot when i realise that people talk of issues that they are not well informed about. The whole world is against Mugabe, his own people too. They crusified Jesus crist, remember? What pains me the most is that as africans, we are always 10 years backwards in our mental capability and the whiteman is 10years ahead. This means there is a 20years gap between us and the white. The reason its like that is because the white think in a western way, with their western culture. We(africans think in a western way with western culture. who is in a better position?
Why is the world crusifying Mugabe? We hear(from BBC,CNN,BTV) that he is satarving his people. This is the same Mugabe who won his people indepence from the colonial ruler. What is independence? Independence from who and for what. Independence according to Mugabe is the ability to run your economic affairs without any influence from interested colonialist. Its the ability to use your god given land to produce food for your people. I mean the land that the white settlers got from Zims for free, by force. You hear that? 1.For free,2. by force. Are you aware you Batswana that unlike here where you have ko masimong(fields) and Morakeng(cattle posts), in Zimbabwe people plough in their back yards for survival. There is o morakeng in Zims. We only have ema plazini(Farms) owned by the whites some of whom no longer stay in Zimbabwe. They are back in Britain. When i say farms i dont mean 6kmX6km that is common here. I mean 20 of those ownen by one person, a white settler who acquired it for free, by force. Now the land re-distribution programme. Yes, this was agreed upon at the L/House Agreement. Research on this very thouroughly.
Now my point is, when we talk of the Zimbabwe issue, we should not take our eyes off the ball, otherwise we will not only miss it, but tackle the fans. Mugabe as a person, like any other person, has his own flaws. Some his personally and most manufactured deliberately to divert attention. We know corruption is in human nature. Even Mandela's ANC was implicated in corrupt practices. The point here is, even though Mugabe had good intentions to redistribute land to his people, he had to delegate that to some individuals, which he did. These are corrupt individuals who gave themselves and their cronies a big chunck of land. Address that as corruption, deal with it and let the land re-distribution take its course because that should be the main focus. Its not going to take one day to get it all right because it involes dialogue. Thats why it took 20years from the signing of the L/House Agreement to repossess that land. It probably took the white settlers a matter of days to cofiscate 2thirds of Zimbabwe which they owen. This is so because of the use of the barrel of the gun. You see

Was it not him who and his government that called President Rajoilina a dj, President Mugabe a pretender and invited Ouatarra over to Bots when other leaders were stll trying to engage?

Ian shud learn as an African and not as colonialist... We salute Mugabe ... You will forever live in our heart... History reminds us all that europeans imperialists do not like African leaders who puts forward the well being of their people .. We know why Mugabe is being demonised, we also know why Lumumba, kabila, Samora Machel, not least My Hero Muamar Ghadafi and all our African Heros who were shamefuly assassinated... As soon as an African leader talks about people's interest he automaticaly becomes a dictactor... What is democracy or shud i ask what is ditactorship???? Is it worse than colonialism or nowadays imperialism??? Africa wake up and throw away your sleeping bag is time stand up against imperialism...... people do not think Mugabe is a Hero but he is indeed an African Hero... Furthermore we kno that that "Moffie" Ian knows that Mugabe dislike "moffies"....
